Shimano Dura-Ace PD-R9300: the new SPD-SLR road pedal
The Dura-Ace PD-R9300 pedals are Shimano’s first new road pedal platform in over twenty years. It replaces SPD-SL with SPD-SLR, a system designed together with the new S-PHYRE SH-RC910 shoe and a new family of cleats. The goal was simple: put your foot closer to the axle, make clipping in easier, and hold the cleat more securely under power.
So the stack height drops by 2.3 mm compared with the previous Dura-Ace pedal. That sounds small, but it puts the sole of the shoe closer to the axle for more direct power transfer. Meanwhile, the pedal now rests at a flatter angle – 10.9 degrees instead of 15.5 – and the wider catch area means the cleat finds the pedal first time, even when you are restarting at the lights. Shimano quotes 11 per cent more stiffness than the Ultegra PD-R8200 and 53 per cent less rotational resistance.
What’s in the box
Each pair ships with CL-SL110 yellow SPD-SLR cleats (±3° float), so you are ready to ride out of the box. Other SPD-SLR cleats are available separately: CL-SL100 red (fixed, 0°), CL-SL120 blue (±1°) and CL-SL130 grey (wide float, for riders coming across from other shoe brands). Choose the standard 52 mm axle, or the +4 mm axle if you need a little more Q-factor.

SPD-SLR is a new cleat standard. The PD-R9300 only works with SPD-SLR cleats (CL-SL100 to CL-SL130). Your existing SPD-SL cleats (SM-SH10, SH11, SH12) will not clip into it, and the new cleats are not designed for older SPD-SL pedals. Because of that, most riders moving to the PD-R9300 also fit the new cleats to their current shoes; any three-bolt road shoe will take them.
