Description
Princeton Grit 4540 – feathery light, tough gravel racing wheels
The Princeton Grit 4540 wheelset is Princeton CarbonWorks’ gravel race wheel, built with DT Swiss 240 hubs. It weighs very little for its depth, yet it is strong enough for rough, fast gravel.
So what makes it tough? The rim passes 130 J impact testing, which is 325% above the UCI minimum. Also, Princeton’s patented Radially Staggered Lacing evens out spoke tension. As a result, the wheel stays true after hard days off-road. Plus, its 24 mm hooked, hole-less rim suits modern wide tyres.
Key features
- Variable 45–40 mm rim depth for speed on fast gravel and road
- 24 mm internal width, hooked and hole-less, so no tubeless tape is needed
- 385 g rim weight
- 130 J impact resistance, 325% above the UCI minimum
- Patented Radially Staggered Lacing
- DT Swiss 240 hubs, a proven and easy-to-service choice

Who is the Princeton Grit 4540 wheelset for?
It suits gravel racers and riders who head out on long, fast dirt rides. It also works as a fast road wheel with wider tyres. However, if you split your time evenly between road and gravel, the deeper Dual 5550 is worth a look. A White Industries hub version is also available. Compare them all in our Princeton CarbonWorks wheels range.
What’s in the box
You get a front and rear wheel with DT Swiss 240 hubs and your chosen freehub. The price does not include tyres, rotors or a cassette.
How to choose your hub and freehub
First, pick the decals that suit your bike. Then choose the freehub that matches your groupset. Shimano HG suits Shimano 11 and 12-speed road groupsets. SRAM XDR suits SRAM AXS road groupsets. Not sure which you have? Just ask us, because we check this on every wheel order.
