The Basso Palta III is Basso’s lightest and fastest gravel bike yet. “Palta” means “mud” in the Veneto dialect, a nod to the gravel roads around Basso’s home. Launched in February 2026, the third-generation Palta sits between a gravel race bike and an adventure bike.
Three generations of the Palta
The first Palta arrived in 2018 and rode much like a cyclocross bike. The Palta II followed in 2021 as Basso’s first true gravel bike, with room for 45 mm tyres. Meanwhile, Basso was main partner of the 2023 UCI Gravel World Championships in the Veneto. The Palta III builds on all of that with more clearance, more speed and smart storage.
Why ride the Basso Palta III?
- Claimed 970 g frame (size M) in Torayca carbon, hand-made in Italy
- Room for 52 mm tyres up front and 50 mm at the rear
- Internal down tube storage with a magnetic Fidlock latch and two waterproof bags
- Faster and stiffer – Basso claims 18% less frontal area and a 19% stiffer bottom bracket than the Palta II
- Three cockpit options – a carbon gravel bar with a 12° flare, or the integrated Fuga or Levita
- Basso x Apidura bags that bolt straight onto the frame, plus a Vibram down tube guard
Who is the Basso Palta III for?
The Palta III suits riders who want a fast gravel bike for racing, long gravel days and light bikepacking. Reviewers rate its speed, climbing and cornering highly. However, it is a race-leaning bike with no fork or rack mounts, so it isn’t built for heavy expedition touring.
