Shimano SPD-SLR Cleats: CL-SL100, CL-SL110, CL-SL120 and CL-SL130
Shimano SPD-SLR cleats are the new cleats for Shimano’s new road pedals, the Dura-Ace PD-R9300 and Ultegra PD-R8200. They are a different shape from the old SPD-SL cleats, so the two are not interchangeable. If you have bought SPD-SLR pedals, these are the cleats you need, and they fit any three-bolt road shoe.
The new shape sits lower on the sole, so your foot is closer to the pedal axle. It also has a thinner heel section, which makes walking in them less awkward. Shimano says they are up to 25 per cent lighter than the SPD-SL cleats they replace. Meanwhile, high-contrast alignment marks and a centre window make it easier to line the cleat up with the grid on Shimano’s shoe soles.
Which cleat do I need?
- CL-SL110 Yellow – 6 degrees of float (3 each way). This is the cleat that ships in the pedal box, and the right choice for most riders.
- CL-SL120 Blue – 2 degrees of float (1 each way), with a front-centre pivot. For riders who want a firmer, more locked-in feel.
- CL-SL100 Red – fixed, zero float. For sprinters and riders who have their position dialled and want the most direct connection.
- CL-SL130 Grey – 6 degrees of float with the traditional SPD-SL fore-aft adjustment range. Choose this one for non-Shimano shoes, or for older Shimano shoes such as the RC903, RC703 and RC503 that do not have the new extended adjustment slot.
Compatibility
SPD-SLR cleats fit the Dura-Ace PD-R9300 and Ultegra PD-R8200 pedals only. They do not clip into SPD-SL pedals such as the PD-R9100, PD-R8000 or PD-R550; for those, use the SM-SH10, SH11 and SH12 cleats. On the shoe side, the cleats use the standard three-bolt road pattern. So they fit the new S-PHYRE SH-RC910 and SH-RC810 as well as other brands’ road shoes.
