Description
Princeton Peak 4550 Evolution II – the climbing wheel that still goes fast
The Princeton Peak 4550 Evolution II is the lightweight climbing wheelset in the Princeton CarbonWorks range. In its lightest build it weighs just 1,200 g, yet its 45 to 50 mm wave rim still holds speed on rolling roads.
So what changed for Evolution II? Princeton widened the rim to 22 mm inside and 32 mm outside, which suits modern 28 mm road tyres. Also, rim weight dropped to 390 g, and every rim is pre-balanced. As a result, the wheels feel lively on climbs yet calm and precise on fast descents.
Key features
- Variable 45–50 mm wave-profile rim for speed and crosswind stability
- 22 mm internal and 32 mm external width for 28 mm tyres
- Hooked, hole-less tyre bed: tubes or tubeless, no rim tape, no pressure limits
- Passes 120 J impact testing
- Alpina Hyperlite spokes with your choice of DT Swiss 240, White Industries CLD or Tactic TR01 v2 hubs
- Tubeless valves and padded wheel bags included

Who is the Princeton Peak 4550 for?
It suits riders who climb a lot and want one wheelset for everything else too. Think Dandenongs repeats, Alpine rides and hilly gran fondos. However, if you mostly ride flat, fast roads, the deeper Wake 6560 Evolution II is the better fit. Compare both in our Princeton CarbonWorks wheels range.
What’s in the box
You get a front and rear wheel with your chosen hub and freehub, tubeless valves and two padded wheel bags. The price does not include tyres, rotors or a cassette.
How to choose your hub and freehub
First, pick the decals that suit your bike. Then choose the freehub that matches your groupset. Shimano HG suits Shimano 11 and 12-speed road groupsets. SRAM XDR suits SRAM AXS road groupsets. Not sure which you have? Just ask us, because we check this on every wheel order.
